Today, we’re discussing a new phenomena in the world of vaping: HHC (Hexahydrocannabinol). HHC has quickly become a favourite among vapers in jurisdictions where it’s permitted. Let’s jump in.
HHC-P, or Hexahydrocannabinol-Phytate, is a compound for vaping. It comes from the cannabis plant and is made to apparently give vapers a different kind of vaping experience. Instead of just CBD or THC, it has a mix of things that can allegedly make users feel different, in a way that’s balanced and controlled.
HHC vapes claim to provide a enhanced vaping experience because of the compounds within the mix – they contain cannabinoid derivatives found in the cannabis plant, some of which may be psychoactive.
It’s important to note that there are limited scientific studies on the long-term health effects of HHC.
As HHC-P vapes can have psychoactive effects, they are not permitted in some jurisdictions. HHC sales were prohibited in several European countries, including Denmark, Belgium, and Austria.
In Greece and Romania, HHC is currently considered legal as there are no laws restricting its use.
HHC has faced bans in Sweden since July 11, 2023, and in Italy since July 28 2023.
In the UK we have not found any explicit mention of whether these vapes would fall within the Psychoactive Substances Act 2016; the Home Office considers a similar substance (Delta-8 THC) as unlawful (but note this is not the same as a judicial judgment which is definitive – it is the opinion of the current government in power, which is not the same thing). But the Act defines a psychoactive substance as any substance that “affects the person’s mental functioning or emotional state” by stimulating or depressing their central nervous system, resulting in hallucinations, changes in awareness, or other psychoactive effects.
